About
In June 1852, the Murrumbidgee River swallowed the town of Gundagai in the worst flood disaster in Australian history. Four Wiradjuri men, Yarri, Jackey, and two others whose names have been lost, paddled their bark canoes into the raging torrent for three days straight, pulling 69 survivors from the treetops. Their courage saved nearly a third of the township.
