Rethinking Acknowledgement of Country in Australia

  • 2 Steps

About

This course challenges the conventional narrative around Acknowledgement of Country and Welcome to Country practices. It explores traditional customs, such as the use of underarm sweat to ward off spirits and the offering of women and wives to maintain peace. You'll also hear from both prominent and everyday Aboriginal voices who do not participate in or support modern-day acknowledgements. The course traces the origins of the contemporary versions, examining how and why they have become so widespread and the factors driving their amplification over the years.
